Taiteiden tutkimuksen laitoksen perustaminen

Elokuun alussa 1998 neljä taideaineiden laitosta ja niiden yhteensä kuusi oppiainetta liittyivät yhteen ja muodostivat Taiteiden tutkimuksen laitoksen. Kotimaisella kirjallisuudella, musiikkitieteellä ja taidehistorialla oli ollut oma laitos, ja muut kolme, estetiikka, teatteritiede ja yleinen kirjallisuustiede, olivat muodostaneet yhteisen laitoksen.
